10. Mind Body
October 18, 2021
The plan was to do 20 session of Neurofeedback. Terrina and I met twice a week for about 10 weeks.
A Neurofeedback session takes 20-30 minutes. You put on the cap and earbuds, get a few electrodes attached and go through a series of 2-3 minute runs. The runs consist of using the mind to grow a green circle on a computer screen. This uses reward and inhibit to stimulate the brain in a coherent manner through sight and sound.
As I was sitting in the cozy office at the brain intercept office my cap on, my earbuds in I started the 1st session.
This was where I saw the direct impact my stressed out life style was having on my physical body.
Blink your eyes three times, the screen shows the motion impacting the body through electromagnetics. So cool!!
Clench your jaw three times, again the screen shows my clenched jaw affecting my physical matter. I have been working with great physical therapists from Orthopedic Physical Therapy. Erica Pfaff and Lee Goetz are amazing and have helped me with jaw clenching, stress management and dizziness.
Something in my brain clicked, an ah ha moment, if this clenching is showing up on this brain wave scan, obviously it's affecting the brain as well. My constant clenched jaw, phone in hand, high stress, fast paced lifestyle was not sustainable.
I worked through 10- 2 minute runs and the session was complete in about 25 minutes. This was the equivalent of sit ups for my brain and it left me feeling tired by the end of the day.
