8. Speech Therapy follow up

September 30, 2021

Speech Therapy is such an inaccurate description for what this time was. Tiffany has this unique perspective of the brains transition through decline. And she knows what will happen if the brain isn't properly cared for. She has great tools and practical suggestions to make a lasting change.

The accountability factor was also a huge piece for me. The strategy of tracking my new habits was a key part to implementing meditation into my day.

One activity that stands out was walking while counting by 3s. My balance was significantly affected by this. One of my struggles had been a dizziness that was leaving me off my game, a feeling of slight vertigo. This simple activity showed me that overworking my brain was having a direct impact on my body. My stressed out brain was giving me physical symptoms.

Another ah ha moment with Tiffany was the way she explained the affect of moving to a new home on the brain. I told her we had recently moved after living in our home for about 20 years. Apparently when you move you give up part of your cognitive reserve. Things like which light switch turns on the light now require brain power as you learn these new switches. All these little changes can be a drag on the brain.

Mindset and the dialogue we have with ourself also plays a part in accomplishing goals. When you say I am bad at darts, you are bad at darts. Just changing that mantra in your head makes a huge difference on the outcome of many daily situations in life.

My time with Tiffany was so beneficial to the journey I was on.
